E&J Fire group consists of two independent companies.
Both are well established ISO 9001-2015 Accredited Approved fire safety contracting companies located in the southeast of England.
E & J Fire and Security Ltd are a commercial fire compliance contractor working in the southeast of the country. This includes Type 1 Fire Risk Assessments, Staff Safety Training and Portable Fire Extinguisher maintenance and install.
All fire risk assessors and service technicians maintain uptodate industry knowledge through regular licenced courses and seminars, ensuring their service works and assessments remain practical, informed, and aligned with current standards.
By being fully qualified in all the areas listed, we have the experience, insurance and accreditation to undertake the full range of fire safety requirements under the new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRO or R.R.O), ensuring that the responsible person (our clients) comply with present law.

Matthew
Matthew – Managing Director
Matthew joined the company in 1992 as an extinguisher engineer, further to
completing his S/P103, and after his father retired, Matthew developed the company now offering a full range of fire-related services to the highest standards. Matthew now leads the day to day running of the business and development.

Carla
Operations Director
Carla joined the company in 2024 after leaving her 30 year career in the travel industry. Carla joined the business as a director to assist in the day to day management and future growth of the business, as well as managing future projects. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in account management and customer service.

Steve
Lead Extinguisher Technician
Steve joined the company in 2007; he is now the lead technician within the extinguisher service department working with larger clients and complex sites, using his wealth of knowledge in maintenance and installation standards.

Tom
Fire Risk Assessor, Extinguisher Technician & Training Officer
Tom joined E & J Fire & Security Ltd in 2008 and is multifaceted in his roles, initially being employed as a certified fire risk assessor he then qualified as an extinguisher technician and continues to work within both fields. Tom is also the workplace training officer. Previously Tom spent 31 years in the fire and rescue service accumulating a wealth of knowledge and experience in fire safety.

Sam
Office Administrator
Sam joined the E & J Group in 2007, she now manages the day to day administration of E & J Fire and Security, from client enquires to client accounts.

Woody
Extinguisher Technician
Woody joined the company in 2024; he is a reliable and safety-focused fireextinguisher technician with extensive knowledge of inspection standards, and regulatory compliance. With hands-on experience in the installation, servicing, maintenance, and commissioning of portable fire extinguishers and associated fire
safety equipment.

James
Lead Fire Risk Assessor
James has over 35 years of experience within the fire sector and is the Lead Assessor. After retiring from the fire service and having been a qualified fire risk assessor with E&J since 2015, he now manages the fire risk assessment department. James holds a Level 3 Diploma in Fire Science and Fire Safety awarded by the
Institution of Fire Engineers.

Stephen
Fire Risk Assessor - DMS, MIoL, MIFSM, MIFireE
Steve is an experienced qualified Fire Risk Assessor, who has worked with the company since February 2024. After leaving the Royal Navy, Steve served in the Fire Service for over 25 years. During his career Steve worked in the Regulatory Fire Safety department as an Inspecting Officer, eventually as the Senior Fire Safety Officer leading the Divisional team. Since leaving the Fire Service Steve has worked at the Home Office and for a large Charity before returning to Fire Safety in 2023. He is a member of the Institution of Fire Safety Managers and holds the Membership examination of the Institution of Fire Engineers.

Gary
Fire Risk Assessor
Gary joined the company in July 2024; bringing over 30 years of experience from the London Fire Brigade, where he attended a wide range of operational incidents and retired as a Station Manager. This background provides him with a practical, realworld understanding of how fire safety measures perform when they are needed most. Alongside his operational career, Gary holds several fire safety qualifications, and his knowledge and experience allows him to conduct fire risk assessments across a wide range of premises, including shops, offices, factories, warehouses, schools, and a variety of residential settings such as flats and care homes.

Jon
Fire Risk Assessor
Jon joined the company in 2023; bringing over 20 years of frontline firefighting experience across a broad range of operational incidents, building types, and risk environments. This background provides a grounded, practical perspective on how fire develops, how buildings behave under fire conditions, and how occupants and responders react in real emergencies. Jon has also worked in some capacity with fire safety enforcement and understands the challenges clients face when engaging with fire authorities, interpreting requirements, and achieving compliance. This combined operational and regulatory insight leads to risk-based advice that aligns compliance with realistic, effective and achievable outcomes.
